Within and Between

Intera joins two small words: inter and intra. Between and within. What lies inside a person and what passes among people. The inner life and the life we share with others.

We live in both places at once. Within each of us is a world of feeling, memory, and longing that we only partly know. Between us is another world, made of families and friendships, teams and communities, and the invisible threads that bind us to one another. These worlds are never separate. What happens within us shapes what happens between us, and what happens between us leaves its mark within.

Intera People Co exists to help people see both.

The life within us.

The life between us.

Psychoanalysis for Everyone

For more than a century, psychoanalytic ideas about the layers of the mind, the patterns we repeat, and the ways we shape one another have mostly stayed behind closed doors—limited by cost, specialized jargon, and a quiet sense of who is welcome.

We don’t claim to have all the answers, but we hope to help nudge those doors open a little wider. Our aim is simply to make psychoanalytic understanding accessible, available, and equitable, offering it in plain language to anyone who is curious about themselves and other people.

What We Do

Intera offers psychoeducation through online seminars and workshops. We explore the inner life: the feelings, fears, and patterns we carry without always knowing it. We explore the life between people: how families hold their stories, how groups develop unspoken rules and roles, how communities come together, and how they fracture.

We look at what happens within a family and between families, within a group and between groups. The aim is insight: seeing ourselves and others more clearly, and meeting difference and difficulty with more curiosity and less reactivity.

Our events are educational. You come to learn, reflect, and think together, not to receive treatment.

Building Insight, Building Community

Insight and community grow together. Understanding yourself makes you a more thoughtful member of any group, and belonging to a group willing to look honestly at itself makes self-understanding easier.

My personal goal with Intera is to help build communities that are genuinely psychologically minded—spaces where people feel safe enough to name what is happening beneath the surface, stay in relationship through conflict, and seek to understand fracture rather than avoid it.

What We Believe

Being human is at the core of psychoanalysis. Beneath all the theory and history, psychoanalysis is fundamentally about human warmth, vulnerability, and connection. It is an effort to meet ourselves and each other as we actually are.

The mind has layers.

What we say and do is only part of the story. Getting to know the rest changes how we live and lead.

Inner life and outer life are one conversation.

We cannot understand ourselves apart from our relationships, or our relationships apart from ourselves.

Psychological understanding belongs to everyone.

It should not depend on income, background, or access.

Fracture is information.

Conflict and division tell us what a person, a family, or a group is struggling to hold. Understanding comes before fixing.

Connection is the point.

We want to find ways to relate to each other as humans, especially when it is hard.

Who It’s For

Anyone curious about why people do what they do, including founders, executives, and technical leaders who want to understand the human side of their work. No background in psychology is needed.

What Intera Is, and Isn’t

Intera is a psychoeducation practice. It is not therapy and does not provide clinical treatment. If you’re looking for therapy, we’re glad to point you toward appropriate resources.

Meet the Founder

Hi, I’m Chandra Rai. I am a psychoanalyst and writer whose work has appeared in The American Psychoanalyst and Critica.

Before training as a psychoanalyst, I spent fifteen years as a systems engineer in Silicon Valley, so I know the culture, pace, and pressures of tech firsthand. I founded Intera to bring deep psychological understanding out of academic and clinical silos and into everyday life, work, and community. I am based in Palo Alto, California.
